About the blog

Welcome to ‘Bobbies on the beat’ – a blog giving you the low-down on the work of officers at Bedfordshire Police.

From what it’s like to be first on the scene of a burglary or sexual assault, to how it feels when an offender you’ve worked hard to bring to justice is sentenced, we’ll be looking at a variety of topics from the perspective of frontline officers and police community support officers (PCSOs).

Each week we’ll bring you posts from people across the force, covering relevant and topical issues from a unique angle.

The posts will be written by officers for you, people and communities of Bedfordshire, to give you a real insight into what it’s like to work in a police force in a frontline role.

We’ll also be featuring guest bloggers – including people from our partner agencies, victims of crime, and charities.

Our officers will be posting regularly so make sure you check back frequently, or subscribe to our email list.

Don’t forget you can also follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook  for all the latest news.

And if you have a topic that you’d like to see discussed on the blog, or any feedback, please do email us.

Have written my account of being a foot beat officer in Bedford in the mid-1950s and of being one of the first officers to drive the new Vellocette police motor cycle introduced in around 1959. I also tell my account as a road traffic officer patrolling the newly opened M1 Motorway in 1960. .Les Barker
