In April 2015, DC Dave Brecknock was assigned to investigate a burglary at a house on a country estate, just outside Luton. Little did he know the case would take almost four years to reach a conclusion.

Targeted and subjected to abuse simply because they were disabled

I was assigned to the case of a disabled family who were subjected to harassment and verbal abuse from their neighbours for a number of years.

We found often find victims of hate crime do not feel confident in reporting continued abuse.

This family, who all have disabilities, were reluctant and scared, but a family member came forward to Bedfordshire Police on their behalf.

Bin the blade

Carrying a knife can have life changing and devastating consequences.

If you set foot in public with a knife – or indeed anything that could be used as a weapon – you not only endanger other people’s lives but also your own.

If someone with a knife gets caught up in an argument or fight, there’s every chance that a knife could be used to injure or kill someone.

One life affected by knife crime is one too many.
